Skills development PROGRAMME
Get Skilled
“Get Skilled” is a new training and development initiative within T? Gobaith. It will be a programme aimed specifically at two key areas. Helping individuals who have chaotic lifestyles and who have been unable to develop the skills to live independently as well as providing access to onsite educational opportunities and sign posting to appropriate external agencies. The programme therefore intends to bridge the gap between non-engagement and engagement.
Why?
For many homeless people having their own accommodation is not enough to ensure a permanent step away from the cycle of disadvantage and social exclusion. Recent OSW research conducted with homeless people in London has highlighted the need for formal accredited training to be offered in familiar surroundings and Get Skilled aims to do this.
Ty Gobaith is a resettlement centre which aims to ensure service users receive skills, training, advice and pro-active support according to each individual’s needs and to encourage a process that leads to independent living. The Get Skilled programme will complement this service by providing opportunities to develop skills, by offering quality training and recognition of achievements. It will help build confidence, increase motivation and enhance learning that may help to provide access to further education, training and employment.
Skills Development is already an integral part of the resettlement programme and provides a number of informal activities and events for
service users and this will continue.
The Get Skilled programme will offer a more structured learning pathway, allowing service users to work towards and achieve City and Guilds awards
